Dental Checkups & Teeth Cleanings for Kids

Child smiling in the dental chair

It is recommended that children see their dentist every six months for routine cleanings and checkups. In addition to checking their smile for cavities and gum disease, they will receive a thorough cleaning so we can remove any food debris and plaque that they have missed. We will spend time during each visit discussing the best ways they can care for their smile at home to form healthy habits to carry into adulthood.

Dental Sealants

Dental sealants are used to protect especially vulnerable areas, like the grooves of the back teeth, from decay. Because the molars are located in the back of the mouth and the groves are so deep, they frequently accumulate plaque. They are also more difficult to clean. To address this, we can cover these teeth with a thin, invisible layer to prevent plaque and bacteria from harming the enamel. They can last for 10 years or longer.

Fluoride Treatment

Fluoride is a natural mineral that is effective in reducing the risk of cavities. For children, it is especially helpful. Regular exposure to fluoride supports the development of strong adult teeth before they even come in. During your child’s checkup, we will briefly coat their teeth with a highly concentrated fluoride solution. This will strengthen their enamel and remineralize areas of minor damage.

Athletic Mouthguards

Does your child stay active by playing sports? To keep their teeth safe while their head is in the game, we offer customized mouthguard designed just for them. They are made based on impressions we take of their mouth. This way, the oral appliance will be effective at absorbing pressure placed on the mouth and minimizing the potential for chipped, broken, or knocked-out teeth.
